PRIDE

Another movie about sports and racism..

Another movie aims to inspire today’s generation…

I don’t have any complaint about this movie..

but what saddens me is that no matter how many films Hollywood produce in order to get the message across… the fact is that out there in the real world.. racism and prejudice is still alive and well..

some might be as obvious as the gang war in LA..
but most of them are subtle and that’s the most dangerous kind.

It’ll take more than just movies to alter messed up mindsets than we stupidly share with one another.
it is easier said than done..
Terrence Howard is very excellent, and Bernie Mac shows that he can be dramatic as well comedic.. ‘Pride’ is both educational as well as entertaining.

SHOOTER

This is an action movie that’s way cool… because it’s the kind of action that’s like the classic action movies we used to watch..

by that I mean.. well… let’s admit it..

just like the observation that my friend Andrew Hibbert once made.. after ‘The Matrix’ every other action movies that followed since then.. basically has elements we see in the movie ‘The Matrix’. It started something new as far as action sequence goes…

but ‘Shooter’ is plain old firepower,.. swiftness of bullets. .. way cool!

don’t watch it for the story.. cause Mark Wahlberg’s low volume voice and the European bad guy’s accent might get you confused as to what’s going on… but if you’ll watch it for the action… then you’ll find this movie to be..way cool :)

THE LAST MIMZY

this movie is cute…. silly.. but cute.

although… it does have enough mystery and visual effects to keep you seated, wondering if it will eventually explain itself.

PREMONITION

Finally,…. one of the worst movies of 2007 has finally arrived.

this is definitely in my list for one of this year’s flicks that sucks big time… it’s just really poorly-made.

‘Premonition’ sucks so bad… I hope Sandra Bullock could come up with a more interesting project next time just to redeem herself.

REIGN OVER ME Review

Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler are just awesome actors, man!

This movie is all about excellent acting performances by every one of the characters.

It’s about people having difficulties coping with their problems, from communication, heartbreak, and the loss of loved ones.. Each of us has our own way of channeling,.. some go down the negative road while some find ways that work effectively only to themselves and no one else.

This film is just an extraordinarily powerful film,.. one that leaves you thinking about what it means to have someone in your life.

Adam Sandler is turning into a very talented, great actor.. I never thought I’d hear myself saying that, keeping in mind that the same Adam Sandler used to be only good playing weirdos and nutcase in his early movies. But ‘Reign over Me’ is proof that he can be more than that… he’s even better in this movie than the excellent job he did in ‘Spanglish’.

and Don Cheadle… the Oscar nominee Don Cheadle.. that says a lot in and of itself… go check out ‘Reign Over Me’.. trust me.. you won’t regret it.

o and uh.. you’ll like the humor in this film a lot.. I kid you not… it actually can be funny at times. this is just a very well-made movie.. hands down.. a very well-made movie!

TMNT Review

I grew up watching this awesome 4 cowabunga dudes fought crimes on the screen of my television…

TMNT is.. fairly entertaining… I say that because the storyline and humor is geared toward little kids and adolescents..
The only awesome part about this new version is the graphics.. and amusing action sequences… the fighting scenes never left that which made TMNT icons back when I was a kid.

but hey.. since I’m still a fan… to me.. TMNT will always be cool.. dude!

THE ULTIMATE GIFT

My friend Teena said this movie was good, so I went to check it out… and boy she’s right :)

Abigail Breslin once again shows us the audience why she is an Oscar Nominee.

This is a movie that has Christian themes.. It has good moral messages.. you will be compelled to be a good person after you watch this movie,.. and that is awesome!

A spoiled young man is being tested to see if he deserves the inheritance his dead grandfather has prepared for him. He finds that life is more than just money, life is more about the people he loves, the experiences he goes through will lead him to the one ultimate gift.

Sometimes we take for granted the value of a hard-day’s manual labor,..

and often times we’re so caught up in how to get more money we tend to forget that there are many other much more important gifts that life has to offer.

If you guys are going to some kind of a spiritual retreat or some kind of self-betterment social gathering.. then this is the movie to see.

THE HOST (GWOEMUL)

Asia’s blockbuster hit finally arrived in US soil.

This Korean-made movie is actually not bad at all.. it’s nothing like the typical monster-movie Asia used to make when I was growing up as a kid..

The visual effects are convincing.. the acting and directing are okay, but overall, it’s quite entertaining..

The characters though would get you all frustrated most of the time,
but that’s a good thing, cause it means that the film works.

MUSIC & LYRICS

It felt a bit awkward being the only single person watching a chick-flick in a theatre full of lovebirds filling almost every seat.

but no one noticed, anyway.. so why should I care?

sure enough.. I was giggling and chuckling.. by myself… awkward.
The movie ‘Music & Lyrics’ is actually a pretty funny movie for romantic comedy… this genre is usually not my cup of tea.. but there have been romantic comedies of the past that actually worked, such as ‘When Harry met Sally’ and ‘Serendipity’.

Hugh Grant is well.. hugh grant.. it seems like he always plays similar type of character in almost all his movies now.. I’m sure if he heard me said that, he’d consider it an insult.

I lost count on how many romantic comedy films that Drew Barry more has done all these years.. but hey.. if she keeps on banking money from being in this type of film all her life.. then why in the world should she care what anyone thinks, right?!

The story is actually funny and the punch lines hit the notes.

As a songwriter myself, I was impressed by Drew’s character’s speech about songwriting,

she said something like this, she said that music is like that feeling that arises when you first see a beautiful person, that first impression and attraction to the appearance at first sight.
Lyrics are like what you say when you’ve gotten to know the person really well.. when you tell others details of that significant person and how much that person really means to you… it’s where it gets personal.

but seriously, folks,.. go see this movie.. with someone.

WILD HOGS Review

I know it’s a bit early to say this.. but..

This is by far one of the funniest movies of the year…

I kid you not,.. it will get you laughing so hard, you might puke your pop-corn out… well, maybe not that disturbing..

but this is one hilarious movie.. about 4 middle-aged men trying to recapture youth’s wild and free spirit.

I love this movie! It should be among the list of all time’s greatest comedies..
they should put ‘Wild Hog’ poster picture in the dictionary next to the word hilarious.

Go see this movie! You won’t regret it:)

ZODIAC Review

To those of you who are fans of ‘Seven‘, ‘Fight Club‘ and ‘Panic Room

the creator of those movies, David Fincher has come back and come back awesome, directing the movie ‘Zodiac’.

But don’t expect it to be anything like Fight Club or Seven because it’s nothing like those two.

This film is more about the investigation and psychological turns rather than going into detail of each murder.. some were portrayed in this film however.

Based on a true story, those of you who live in San Francisco or around that area are probably familiar with the story even when you weren’t born during the time it happened…
the case led certain people into an obsession.

Based on Robert Graysmith’s book about the real-life notorious serial killer Zodiac that terrorized San Francisco in the 60s and 70s.

Great cast ensemble to perfectly support the well-written script.

This film will put you into one mind game after mind another. It left me saying, “Wow! this was a clever movie!” but you’ll probably be saying “Wow! that movie was too long, my brain’s in pain for thinking too much!”

a thriller doesn’t get any better than this.

BLACK SNAKE MOAN Review

A woman who is a Nympho
A man and his anxiety attacks
and a preacher coping with heartache
all collide into one raw and profound story.

A preacher tries to help a sex addict to help her from herself. The love of her life is not perfect either because he has fear within him that’s eating him alive. In the end the preacher knows that they need each other’s presence to keep each one of them strong.

A story of redemption and second chances

The writer and director of this movie tries to explain the good that could come out of our helping each other out through whatever it is we’re dealing with.
Our problems may not necessarily fade away in an instant, but with the presence and embrace of those we care very much about,
we can calm one another though the storm may still rage

Justin Timberlake excellent once again with this project.. he’s becoming a very well rounded actor… Christina Ricci was daring, bold, and like never before.

and on the lead is Mr. Samuel motha-F’in Jackson… the busiest, hardest-working man in Hollywood who can actually sing the blues.. and yes.. he still uses those motha-F’in cuss words… a lot.. as always.
Overall, this movie is intriguing and well-directed.

ASTRONAUT FARMER

Billy Bob might sound like a funny sounding name but there’s nothing mediocre about Billy Bob Thornton’s acting..

he’s really good at what he does and this movie just validates it even more..

the concept of the storyline seems ridicilous and far-fetch.. but this film reminds us about the necessity of having a dream..

most of us start by having a dream but living our lives eventually just to have something to do instead of trying to realize that dream

This is the land of opportunities, fellas! let’s make the best of it.

I’m not much of a science person… but I’ve always admired what science can do and that includes getting involved in the building of a space rocket just as this movie portrays.

It’s a good family film and quite inspirational too. If you’re looking to be… re-inspired all over again.. then yes.. definitely check out ‘Astronaut Farmer’.
