NEXT Review

Nicolas Cage, an actor who is better at doing drama (Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Matchstick Men) than action or horror movies (Ghost Rider, Wicker Man, Gone in 60 Seconds)
He’s a very talented actor, no doubt… but action movie star, I doubt.

The concept of this story is quite intriguing, considering many of us have seen or heard tales of people who can see the future,

but only a few of us or maybe just the author of the book on which this movie is based, who can come up with a tale of a man who sees the future only as far as two or three minutes ahead and nothing more.

It’s an okay action movie.. nothing awesome or spectacular or anything like that! just.. okay.

It’s pretty cool to see how he dodges bullets and every danger that lurks around the corner..
in a way it almost seems like he has spidey sense.

but then again, it’s Nicolas Cage, ..the last time he was cool was when the awesome Sean Connery was working with him in the movie ‘The Rock’.

THE INVISIBLE Review

Boy was I fooled! From the trailer, it seemed like it was going to be one of those non-stop thriller mixed with supernatural abilities.

But this movie’s trailer doesn’t really share the storyline.

Nobody expects this to be a film that tells of how one kid tries to fix communication problem with his mom.

The filmmaker tried to put in elements of drama and relationship into the bowl and it came up short..

It’s cheesy and often times very, very annoying.

Don’t waste your time and money on this one.. I don’t even recommend watching it on DVD.

IN THE LAND OF WOMEN

okay.. don’t chastise me for saying this.. but..

This is a very interesting movie!!

I was never a fan of chick flicks, but I figured if I just tried to sit through this one, I might just learn something..
and I did.

This movie is not just for girls or couples to see.. I think guys need to check it out as well.

What’s it about? it’s about being a good listener, it’s about being there for your loved one, it’s about waking up to reality and stop blaming yourself and others for what happened in the past. It’s about moving on.
although Adam Brody, Kristen Stewart and Meg Ryan all give excellent screen performances… the writing is what gives meaning to this story.

VACANCY Review

It has enough scare to keep you on the edge of your seat.

But the story has flaws. I’m not sure exactly why the killers take their time before they get to do what they intend on doing.

Overall, I think it’s quite an effective horror/suspense film, but it could’ve been better, it could’ve had more fast-paced scenes thrown into the whole line of sequences.

It kinda gives you the creeps though to think that it might just happen in the next creepy motel that you might get stranded in.

FRACTURE Review

Bravo for the performances of the great Sir Anthony Hopkins and the rising star Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling.

Seeing these two actors battling each other in the game of justice and crime thrills the very core of movie-viewing experience.

it’s all about the characters and a very well-written script.

One is a cocky DA lawyer and one is a cocky old genius.

‘Fracture’ will leave you cheering for both the good guy and the bad guy.

You’ll try to guess and guess but you’ll never get it until it explains itself so well that you’ll find yourself amazed or in awe.

Spellbinding!! Definitely one of the greatest thriller films I’ve seen in my entire life. Go watch it! you’ll see what I mean :)

THE HOAX Review

Liar, liar pants on fire! we’ve heard of that so many times in our lives, it drives some of us crazy.

‘The Hoax’ is about an outrageous true story woven by the mastermind liar named Clifford Irving played by Richard Gere
He tricked the world into thinking that he wrote an official autobiography of the billionaire Howard Hughes just to make fast money.

some of the scenes make you want to cringe because he almost got caught. You find yourself feeling sorry for the characters.

as far as storyline goes.. It is funny, it is tragic,.. it is outrageous, it is clever. This film is very entertaining just as much as it is ironic.

One lie leads to another, and that other lie leads to the fall of a presidency.. whose job description includes telling lies
admit it.. sometimes we lie so much, we can’t even tell which side is up anymore.

HOT FUZZ Review

Now this is a very, bloody, hilarious movie! It’s got good action sequences too.

This is the kinda movie that’s more fun to watch in theaters than on DVD.

A very skilled cop has been assigned to work in what it seems to be a quiet village until he discovers that murder after murder has been going on for quite some time, but everybody else doesn’t think the same.

It has appearances from many famous British actors, including the former James Bond: Timothy Dalton and Oscar Winner Jim Broadbent.

The cinematography or the camera work might seem a bit dizzying at times.. but it seems like that’s the in thing right now in action movies, for example ‘Bourne Supremacy’.

‘Hot Fuzz’ is this season’s real deal!

A tale of the Vikings vs. the Natives

Sharp and Cunning.

PERFECT STRANGER

Bloody Hell.. look, I’m a big fan of Bruce Willis, but I am very disappointed in all his recent films for the past three years or so (Hostage, 16 Blocks) and now this..

As far as acting goes, Halle Berry and Giovani Ribisi are on the winning line.

you can’t argue with Halle’s sex appeal though.. she’s still got it!

Halle Berry plays a journalist whose friend is found dead. He goes undercover to investigate her next big story and hunt down the advertising mogul, played by Bruce Willis. With the help of her friend (Giovani Ribisi), she finds that this particular investigative journalism is much more complicated and darker than her usual stories.

The direction of the film was a bit unorganized.. but I guess that’s how it is with films that have one too many twist endings.

the story’s predictable.. no matter how badly this movie tries to keep us guessing, we could somehow know what might happen next and still get it right.
There’s too many twists going on, it’s not well crafted and it becomes borderline silly.

This is a thriller that’ll make you yawn.. in fact.. I kinda wish I hadn’t paid to see it.

DISTURBIA

Shia LaBeouf is Hollywood’s most promising actor.. notice I don’t use the term movie star.. though he has what it takes since he’s starring in upcoming blockbuster Transformers and might also co-star in the next ‘Indiana Jones 4′..

but ‘Disturbia’ is proof that the Disney Channel’s Even Stevens can really act.

This movie has a slow start.. in fact I think it takes too long of a time to build its charactes.

David Morse does a good job as the creepy next door neighbor who turns out to be a serial killer. The suspense works well at the last half hour of the film and in the end it would make any audience feel glad they’re patient enough to sit through the the whole thing.

If you’re looking for thrills, you won’t get disappointed by ‘Disturbia’.

REDLINE

Whoever wrote the storyline to this movie needs to never write anything ever again..

People need to know which movies should go straight to DVDs.. this is one excellent example..

sure it has awesome racing scenes, gorgeous cars and beautiful women all over the place, and Eddie Griffin’s kinda funny a few times.. but the whole film is so cheesy,.. it’s practically crap.

Nadia Bjorlin is officially one of the hottest woman in the planet, you’ll know when you see this movie.

A hottie with a rock band of her own is being offered a chance of a life time to get back at a fat bad guy who has gambling problem. A war vet whose brother died while racing for money is also going to get even.

As far as story goes, Redline is one of the worst car movies ever made.

THE REAPING Review

This is one of those case of Oscar Winners make big mistakes in choosing projects.

I remember Charlize Theron with the louzy Aeon Flux.. Halle Berry with the ridiculous Catwoman, and now Hillary Swank thinks that The Reaping would be an awesome project to do.. wrong!

It’s not scary, it’s not thrilling, it’s lame and the only weapon it’s got is its surprise shocks that come out as trying too hard.

Hillary Swank is a way better actress than this.. she should leave movies like this for B-stars to do.

ARE WE DONE YET?

this is supposedly the sequel to ‘Are we there yet?’ starring basically the same people, but with the story about their moving to a new broken-down house and the guests that won’t go away… yadi yada…bla bla bla..

ok, bottomline.. you’re probably not gonna laugh a lot watching this movie.. in fact the funny parts are already shown in its trailer/preview.. and Ice Cube is just not comical enough… he still has that badass gangsta look no matter what other role he’s trying to play.

The story tries to take a turn that lead to something deep and profound, but it even fails to do so.. that route fails to make up for the unfunny scenes before it.

the only funny character in this movie is the one played by that guy Dr. Cox from TV’s ‘Scrubs’.. I believe his real name is John C. McGinley.. or somethin’ like that.. he will definitely crack you up..

I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE Review

This is the mature Chris Rock.. though he still got those racist punch lines that made him famous back on HBO’s ‘Bigger and Blacker’

but here in ‘I think I love My Wife’, which is directed by Chris Rock, he shows the audience a side of him that can be like a.. what’s the word I’m lookin for.. grown up. Someone who is faced with dilemmas of having second thoughts about living the married life.

This movie’s got some effective humor and I think it’s not bad at all.. but it’s directed toward target market of those who are in relationships and just like any romantic/comedy movie.. the lesson learned is communication matters… when communication starts to get distorted by lies, suspicion, and insecurities.. that’s when the problem starts to happen.

300 Review

‘300′ is a fine spectacle for the eyes.

It’s based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel about 300 Spartans who stood against a million Persians descending upon them. King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) makes every other guy on earth feels ashamed about their bodies.
This movie has a very hot though brief sex scene.
But the best part is the oracle dancing on air ever so smoothly.

it is made in such remarkable graphics and visual effects..
It is so violent yet so sexy.. we can appreciate how committed this film is to providing us with action sequences and a story that both male and some female audiences can cheer on.

Some of us are familiar with the history that this particular film is based on.
But basing it more on Frank Miller’s graphic novel adds the value of its entertainment.

no, this is not something you’d take your little cousins to… but it’s definitely fun to watch it with a gang of friends.

But the story sounds all too familiar… it sounds like a propaganda… it sounds a lot like what’s happening in the real world today..
keeping in mind that this month will be 4 years since Pres. Bush deployed U.S. troops to Iraq.
This month of March, it will be 4 years since this bloody war got started.

But let’s not compare King Leonidas to Pres. Bush, shall we?

because unlike Leonidas… you will never see Pres. Bush fighting on the frontline :)

It’s pretty cool movie overall, but here are 3 of my bottomline objections:

1. The movie seems to advice the audience to support the war, and those who don’t, come out as traitor or unpatriotic, this movie’s political agenda, which is not even subtle, has a close timing to 4th anniversary of the war in Iraq.

2. it’s nothing original and by that I mean the fighting sequences are ‘The Matrix’-like kinda fighting.

3. It comes across as overly-dramatic, with all the speeches and all.

GRINDHOUSE: PLANET TERROR & DEATH PROOF Review

This is probably one of the coolest movies ever..

it’s not that scary, but what makes it awesome is that it’s funny enough, you find yourself saying: This Movie Rocks!!!

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino have really done it this time! :)
GRINDHOUSE, awesome double feature that reminds us of the old classic theaters and movies that would have previews and cheesy commercials that are just silly LOL!!

Man, I recommend GRINDHOUSE only to those of you who love movies with violence, gore, and sexual content!!

‘Planet Terror’ may be the greatest zombie yet, is more entertaining than ‘Death Proof’, but that’s understandable cause Quentin Tarantino is a master when it comes to writing scripts of dialogues that are long but clever and witty.
‘Planet Terror’ is a tribute to zombie movies, and ‘Death Proof’ is a tribute to golden movies of the past about car-chases and speed.

Many people don’t like this double feature because both movies presented do not really have purpose to their stories, well I say GRINDHOUSE is just pure fun and entertainment, you want something else, then don’t watch this awesome flick.

Prepare yourself for the outrageous “Machete” :)

The best part is Rose McGowan who even though ends up having machine-gun for a leg,..she still looks sizzling!!!

THE LOOKOUT Review

It’s kind of a slow thriller…. it’s a pretty clever one though…

Another movie about short-term memory..

At times it feels like a bad version of the awesome ‘Memento‘ or ‘Fargo‘.. maybe not even close.

‘The Lookout’.. entertaining, yes
suspenseful, somewhat
worth watching in theaters, maybe not

it’s nothing that you can’t wait for it to come out on DVD

BLADES OF GLORY Review

Whoever thought of making a movie about paired male figure skaters was a comic genius.

Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) are two rival in the world of competitive figure skating. But their medals get stripped from them and now they have to collaborate as paired male figure skaters and bring a whole new outrageous meaning to elegance.

‘Blades of Glory’ is a laugh-fest from start to finish. Funny’s not even an enough word to describe this riot :)
It might seem silly at times, but c’mon.. lighten up! It’s a comedy for cryin’ out loud… it’s supposed to be ridiculous…

Will Ferrell and John Heder are a winning comedic combination..

I kid you not… This movie is very hilarious.. there you have it :)
