SICKO Review

now ‘SICKO’.. now this is a must-see film

it’s in my opinion one of the best documentaries films of the year.. heck I’d even put it in my list of top ten best films of 2007

‘Sicko’ is an eye opener about the evil of health insurance companes in United States that seem to have lost the care in healthcare.

This big companies deny care just to keep profit and save money.. while people are dying because they can’t afford medical bills.

Other countries including Cuba have it so much better because of the Universal health care, which is labeled as socialist medicine by the U.S. government, comprised of many who unfortunately have been bought by big health insurance companies.

Look.. I’m not saying Michael Moore is a saint, but I have to admit that he’s an excellent documentary film producer, and this recent project of his is going to cause a stir.

‘Sicko’ has thrill, drama, comedy, even horror.. and a whole lotta reality…
you don’t have to be a U.S. citizen to be appalled by the stories presented in this film.
Trust me, go watch the movie ‘Sicko’.. and you’ll understand.. or at least it will definitely increase your awareness.

EVENING Review

There’s a list of great and talented actors or should I say.. actresses.. taking part in this movie.

Vanessa Redgrave, Toni Colette, Meryl Streep, Claire Danes, Natasha Richardson.

‘Evening’ is your very own tear-jerker for this summer.

it’s a tale of generations of the past and the present.. of mothers and daughters.. mistakes that may not be… and a love so wonderful, it could never be away from the heart that holds it near.
It’s not as powerful a drama as it could’ve been.. but I’d put it in the same level as ‘The Notebook’.

to tell you the truth.. I also think this movie’s ending’s a bit too weak.

LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD Review

WOW!! Now this is how Action movie should be made.

I’ve always been a big fan of Die Hard trilogy films, and this 4th installment lives up to all expectations.

A disgruntled computer genius who felt betrayed by U.S. is now hacking into every system to bring the whole nation down and John McLane has to protect the only young hacker than can help him out and free his daughter from the bad guy. John McLane is now faced not only with yet another act of terrorism but the age of digital world.

I was a bit disappointed that the main character John McLane, played well by Bruce Willis as always, is now PG-13,…

even the famous phrase “Yippie Kai Yay, mo*%er-f*#$er is barely heard.

but I guess the filmmaker wants to present a more mature McLane, the father-figure type… and also to bring in younger audiences who may not be old enough to remember the first three awesome Die Hard movies.

Bravo to my action movie star Bruce Willis for keeping his south jersey charm that made McLane a box office hit.

‘Live Free or Die Hard’ is another one of McLane’s encounters with terrorists and just like his previous ones, the bad guys always end up doing what they do just for the money.

but this time McLane faces the difficulty of technology and computer hacking and stuff that he does not know much about,..

one thing he does know best is to kick major ass.. and stay alive!
Explosives, visual effects, gunpowder, fights after fights and unbelievably amazing stuntwork, this movie will keep you at the edge of your seat and beg for more.

you will want to see it again and again.

YIPPIE KAI YAY!!!

A MIGHTY HEART Review

I’m glad this movie does not depict in details the kidnapping and brutal murder of Daniel Pearl, instead it focuses on the suspense of the investigation and the humanity’s response to uncertainty.

Angelina Jolie does well as the wife of the murdered journalist.

I am kinda disappointed in how Hollywood portrays pregnant ladies lately, it doesn’t look convincing,.. in the movie ‘Knocked up’ and this one.. it seems like the mothers have skinny bodies and skinny arms but big ass belly.

We all know that pregnant wife would eat a lot and look bigger.

but anyway, back to the film.. ‘A Mighty Heart’ reminds you of how well the movie ‘Hotel Rwanda’ tells of the gruesome killings without having to show graphic images… the key is in the writing.

In the end, it’s Oscar worthy, I suppose, but it’s not emotionally powerful enough.

EVAN ALMIGHTY Review

Unfortunately it is not as hilarious as ‘Bruce Almighty’, but ‘Evan Almighty’ is definitely entertaining enough to be considered a family film.

The CGI visual effects are pretty cool to watch.

and the jokes are mild.. but it’s quite funny to see Steve Carell being transformed into Noah, complete with the wild white hair and robe and cane and everything.

Jonah Hill, the actor who plays the fat kid in the upcoming movie ‘Superbad’ cracks me up as the stalker intern of Evan Baxter…., man! That guy is a new force to be reckon with in the world of comedy films.

I think Wanda Sykes’ voice is annoying…

as far as story goes, it’s way too silly, of course, but the best part comes when the great Morgan Freemon gives the ‘opportunities’ speech… kinda reminds you of his previous equally inspiring ‘be the miracle’ speech in the movie ‘Burce Almighty’.

FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER Review

Finally, the first of this year’s summer blockbuster that offers non-stop action, speed, catastrophy and visual effects that although may look cartoonist, we can say at the end of the film, “That was tight!”

This is so much better than the first movie,.. I hated the first installment of Fantastic Four because it didn’t live up to the expectations advertised by the studio.

Silver Surfer rides his way into earth and everything seems to be falling apart. Mr. Fantastic figures out that Surfer’s existence has caused destructions in other planets and so the team must find a way to save earth and get rid of Silver Surfer. Meanwhile, Mr. Doom returns and has an agenda of his own.

‘Fantastic 4: Silver Surfer’ does come off as something more for children and adolescents to enjoy, nevertheless it has enough Jessica Alba to keep male movie audiences seated.
I think it’s not going to do well at the box office, though I’m not sure how successful it will be on DVD. Critics are calling it ‘Fantastic Bore’.
Sure, it’s not as extravagant as other summer blockbuster films, but I think overall, the film’s not bad at all, it’s pretty damn exciting actually.

IT’S CLOBBERING TIME!!

1408 Review

1408 is an okay suspense/horror, and in that sense I mean, it has its moments that will give a little scare every now and then,… but it has a weak ending.

I think suspense/horror movies need to end with a bang, with the characters receiving what they deserve and with no cheesy resolution.

Mike Enslin (John Cusack) is obsessed with finding out supernatural world after the death of his daughter. He’s never been convinced until he checks into the Dolphin Hotel room 1408. The room toys with him and his difficulty of coping with the loss of his daughter.

Props to John Cusack who gives an outstanding performance…
He actually excels in this movie, playing a father who searches for supernatural phenomenons after having a hard time dealing with his daughter’s untimely death.

This movie’s based on a short story by the master Stephen King.
Makes you wonder sometimes what really is going on in the mind of Stephen King?!

This might not be as great as the classics that were based on Stephen King’s writings such as The Shining, Carrie and all the likes.. but if you’re a big fan of Stephen King or just a fan of movies that can give you the willies,…
then by all means, check into 1408, and hope you’ll survive the day.

OCEAN’S THIRTEEN Review

‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ is the epitome of Cool!!!

I didn’t like the sequel before this one, which was ‘Ocean’s Twelve’.
Ocean’s Twelve was so bad, it should’ve have existed.

but ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ might be as good or even better than ‘Ocean’s Eleven’.

It’s like Mission Impossible with humor.

You know what I like about this movie.. I need to get me some of the suits that those guys wear… Al Pacino, George Clooney, Brad, Matt, and Andy are all wearing awesome, to die for, GQ suits…

expensive, nice-lookin’ suits that I probably can’t afford until the end of time.

SURF’S UP Review

Surfing Penguins, can’t get any more awesome than that!!..

if you’re looking for a laugh out loud comedy, you’re watching the wrong film.. cause ‘Surf’s Up’ is one of those ‘Believe in yourself!’ kinda movies.

The part nearing the end reminds you a lot of the movie ‘Cars’.. of how the cocky kid becomes both enlightened and inspired and he helps his friend win the race instead of trying to take the glory all for himself.

Every scene when those penguins are surfing the waves makes me feel like I just wanna go swim the ocean and crash into waves despite the fact that I cannot surf for the life of me.

this is the one thing I don’t like about the water at the beaches in Southern California,.. it’s way colder than the one back in my tropical place..
but that still won’t keep me from getting my feet wet..

I don’t understand why people just wanna get tan or take long walks on the sand when the water’s just right there for us to have fun with.

This movie will re-ignite that awesome feeling of ocean water and all that it has to offer… you’ll understand what I mean once you’ve seen ‘Surf’s Up’ :)

MR. BROOKS Review

Holy smokes! I thought this movie was gonna suck big time,.. man was I wrong!

the reason I thought it wouldn’t be an awesome thriller, cause when was the last time you actually thought that Kevin Costner was cool?

‘Mr. Brooks’ is a nicely woven thriller about a man who has everything and yet he has one addiction, not alcohol or drugs,.. he enjoys killing people.

Mr. Brooks (Kevin Costner) is haunted by his alter-ego (William Hurt) who’s been encouraging him to kill many times. Mr. Brooks wants to retire from being a serial-killer with one last job. But someone (Dane Cook) saw what happened and all he wants is to be in on the next murder. Mr. Brooks now knows that the only thing to end everything is to kill again and again.

Now.. the great William Hurt plays the inner voice genius devil that tells Kevin Costner’s character to kill people. There’s only a few great actors that can pull a really menacing bad guy (Gary Oldman, Gabriel Byrne, Anthony Hopkins and William Hurt)

Kevin Costner is brilliant as a loving father and a compassionate husband and yet at the same time a cold-blooded murderer without any emotion.

I’m telling you that if you like thriller movies, this will not disappoint you.
It’s as good and chilling as it can be.

I know that it’s a very sick concept.. but you’ll be impressed.

WAITRESS Review

A story about a waitress, well-played by Kerri Russell, who gets stuck between her terrible marriage with her awful husband and her infidelity with the town’s doctor and her frustration to run away from her life.

Not bad for an independent movie, I think.. though you can always find better dramas to watch.

I guess what triggers me to watch this movie how interesting it is to see the making of pies in fast motion :) Kerri Russel’s character is an expert in making pies, so she would name or call her pies based on the emotion she feels while making them.

and the legend Andy Griffith gives enough wit to the storyline.

The lesson learned here is to jut do what we love.. when you already know what you want in life.. then just go for it!
most of us often make the mistake of just settling for less.. resulting in us living the rest of our miserable lives with regrets.

With the perfect timing and preparation.. any one of us can have a fresh start.. besides, life is full of second chances.

Keri Russell’s got talent, she just needs a better movie that would give her the recognition as one of the worthy ones to take home the statuette, waitress just isn’t that movie.

KNOCKED UP Review

Now this… this is one of the best movies of 2007, ladies and gentlemen.

It’s not only hilarious, but also offers you elements and dialogue and situations that could come up in real life when dealing with this particular situation.

The humor is downright funny, thanks to the comedic skills of all the characters involved.. but the winner of it all is the talented writer/director Judd Apatow who crafted the idea and created this film.

It’s a story about a one night stand gone terribly bad,.. but it’s also about making relationship work, and about… no matter how hard the work of expecting a baby is, it’s still one of the most awesome experiences any parent could have… for both the father to be and the mother to be.

This movie does have strong language and sexual content, but if you’re an adult enough to watch this kind of movie.. then I highly recommend it.

o and by the way.. for the record,… Katherine Heigl who plays Allison.. is amazingly beautiful.

BUG Review

This movie is one of the most stupid horror movie ever made.

maybe because it’s based on a play that’s probably better than the movie version.

It advertises itself as one of the scariest movies you’ll ever see and it turns out to be nothing other than a film about paranoia and insanity that bug (no pun intended) a couple of the main characters.

great acting by all the performers from Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Shannon and the ever beautiful Ashley Judd who seems to always be able to pull an excellent trashy character just as she did in her other previous movies.

but the movie itself is boring, slow, and dreadful. It baffles me why the director of ‘The Exorcist’ and the awesome ‘The French Connection’ would take on such a mundane project.

This is like a terrible version of ‘A Beautiful Mind’.. and this time, schizophrenia wins in the end.
