DEATH AT A FUNERAL Review

Death at a funeral
DEATH AT A FUNERAL is not only the best comedy films I’ve seen in many years, it is now one of the best films of 2007 in my list. This is an uproarious film about a family who comes together for the memorial service of a father who apparently had a secret life when he was alive, secrets that could bite the family in the arse. I use the word ‘arse’ because this film has… talented British stars and performers who’ve succeeded in making me laugh so hard I could barely breath.

Two brothers, one is a successful novelist, while the other is the not-so-talented writer, are dealt with a situation when a stranger comes to their father’s funeral and threatens to reveal their father’s secret if he’s not paid some amount of money. Meanwhile their close cousin is trying to calm down her hallucinating boyfriend who took some Valium pills that are not. Amazingly hilarious scenes start to occur one after another.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I could watch it over and over again and still get a good laugh as if I just watched it for the first time. The one factor that gives reason for this movie’s triumph other than the brilliant writing is also the brilliant cast. Somebody better give the casting director a bonus pay because all the actors involved in the film are perfect for the roles.

Director Frank Oz, who is better known as the voice of Miss Piggy on the Muppets movies, has finally found his prized project with this film after having directed a lame movie called The Stepford Wives three years ago. Screenwriter Dean Craig deserves to get awarded for writing this funny movie about a British dysfunctional family who puts the F U in Funeral.

The dialogue and the humor are not as nasty as Superbad but it can get real dirty, literally.
You’d even laugh at some of the subtle situations that would arise before the supposed punch lines, that’s how effectively funny DEATH AT A FUNERAL is. The part where that one dude got really messed up by the hallucinogenic pills he took cracked me up! You gotta see it to believe what I’m saying, trust me!

DEATH AT A FUNERAL should get a nomination for Golden Globe category Best comedy of the year. Hell I wouldn’t even be surprised if the Oscars decide to nominate it just like they did with Little Miss Sunshine last year. But even it didn’t get all those, you are missing out if you haven’t seen this movie, so go and check it out :) Treat yourself to something outrageous this season and watch DEATH AT A FUNERAL.
