RESURRECTING THE CHAMP Review

Samuel L. Jackson
After watching movies like this one, it always makes me feel grateful and inspired to become a better person. RESURRECTING THE CHAMP is probably not going to win Best Picture but the story will win many hearts. It’s about forgiving the past, it’s about father and son, it’s about friendship. Based on a true story of an article written by J.R. Moehringer, this film goes to show… how we often times don’t care to find the truth because we so desperately want to get to where we think we deserve without considering the impact that our actions may cause on others and the grave consequences which will not tire until they got us down and uncovered.

Eric Kirnon (Josh Hartnett) needs a story that will save his career and former boxer Satturfield (Samuel L. Jackson) turned homeless is Eric’s title shot to great reputation as a journalist. More than that Eric wants his son to be proud of him and that is his foundational reason when faced with difficulties of telling the truth. What Eric wants is a story but what he’ll get is so much more priceless than that.

The most powerful part of this movie is Samuel L. Jackson’s performance. He has been one of the most hard-working actors in Hollywood. He likes to be in tons of movies in one year. His last performance in the movie ‘Black Snake Moan’ was also just as spellbinding as this one. I think he should get nominated for both movies.
As a former boxer who ends up living on the streets, Samuel Jackson’s face shows us an old man who’s been through a lot and made many bad choices including walking out on his family. You can even hear the sadness and the fading age through his voice. It reminds me of how Morgan Freeman twitched his voice to sound differently for the movie ‘Million Dollar Baby.

I used to think Josh Hartnett was just a pretty boy from Pearl Harbor movie who’ll never get to be more than what he’s been perceived. But in this movie, I gotta hand it to Josh for doing an excellent job as the father/reporter who is conflicted between being a good father and wanting to be a sensational journalist.
