John Cusack’s GRACE IS GONE

If there’s one actor that I think deserve better recognition is John Cusack. The guy that made the lasting impression by holding up a big radio set in the movie ‘Say Anything’, may have finally found the movie that might get him the chance to win the win the golden statuette next year. GRACE IS GONE is a touching drama that won this past Sundance and will be released everywhere October 5th. It’s about a father (John Cusack) who… took his daughters on a cross-country trip after finding out his wife died fighting in Iraq. He doesn’t know how to break the bad news to his kids. It’s an emotional drama that will most likely make you cry long after the movie’s done.
The time has come for John Cusack to shine. There are talks about his brilliant and heart-wrenching performance in this movie.
This is a guy who’s proven he can do thrillers (’Runaway Jury’, ‘Identity’), comedy (’America’s Sweethearts’, ‘The Ice Harvest’), he can keep up with great actors (with Al Pacino in City Hall, with Kevin Spacey in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil), he even makes a good friend by taking his pal Jeremy Pivens (TV’s Entourage) to be a part of most of his movies, last but not least he’s also good at being weird (Being John Malkovich).
His competition is pretty fierce in my book, though. There’s Christian Bale for his performance in Rescue Dawn and there’s Samuel L. Jackson for the recent Resurrecting the Champ. But still, I even think John Cusack did awesome in the thriller ‘1408′, and if he doesn’t get at least a nomination for GRACE IS GONE, then there’s something wrong with everything we know.
GRACE IS GONE’s musical score by the way was composed by Clint Eastwood who also came up with the original score for his award winning Million Dollar Baby. Who would’ve thought that a dude who played cowboys many times while he was young turned out to be a real sensitive old man?!
