HALLOWEEN Review

I always say that Rob Zombie is a better musician than he is a film director, but I gotta say that his effort in this remake is not bad at all. It’s still not a masterpiece because it drags, but as far as horror movie’s supposed to be, it works. Do you remember how back in the day horror movies would include some kind of scene where the victim tried to get away in a car that just wouldn’t start? Or remember how the predator would chase down the prey no matter what obstacles get in the way? Ah.. the good old days of classic horror. Rob Zombie’s Halloween takes us away from all the usual torture porn films (Saw, Hostel, Captivity, Turista) that have been infecting audiences for the past few years.
Michael Myers killed his family when he was a kid but spared his little baby sister. Under the care of a psychologist, Myers grew up in prison and became even more disturbed as years gone by. Now he breaks loose and is ready for killing spree in order to find his sister.
It’s got blood, guts and scream after scream. It’s got masks and one psychopath unable to die though he’s been shot several times. This movie does have several hot girls.
But like I’ve mentioned before, this film drags, in other words it could end a lot sooner but because Rob Zombie had to prolong some of the scenes and dialogue, we’d often stare at the screen wondering “When the hell is this going to bloody end?”
If you’ve seen this movie, you’ll notice that director Rob Zombie has gotten better at making sure the angle shots taken would be ones to give terror to the audience. The placing of each position and Myers’ creative ways of murdering his victims, like it or not, gives Rob a deserving pat on the back “Not bad, creepy dude with scary long hair that looks like it’s got lice, not bad at all”. Director Rob Zombie reportedly has signed on with Dimension to do 2 more movies. Not certain whether or not he’s going to continue with a sequel of this Halloween franchise.
