New STREET FIGHTER The Movie

Street Fighter
They’re making another STREET FIGHTER Movie. I said another because I’m sure any one of us is old enough to remember the first wretched movie adaptation of this popular game back in… 1994, starring the dude that always has the same jump and kick fighting style in almost all of his movies, Jean Claude Van Damme. The lines were cheesy and the only thing bearable about that movie was the hot exotic Ming Na as Chun Li and the sexy pop star Kyle Minogue as Cammy. That’s why it’s pretty cool when I heard about this info that they’re making a new movie version, that’s not a sequel to the first failed attempt, if you will.

Jean Claude Van Damme can’t act to save his own career, and now all he’s making are straight to DVD B-action movies. I wouldn’t mind keeping Ming Na and Kyle Minogue to reprise their same roles, everyone knows that they still look slammin’ now even in their early 40s. But it would be better and more stunning if someone like Kelly Hu gets to play Chun Li and maybe Sienna Miller could play Cammy.

But the casting for this new STREET FIGHTER Movie has not been done yet. All we know for now is that it will be directed by, I’m not even going to try to pronounce it, Andrzej Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Doom). The script has been written by the same guy that’s also involved in the movie adaptation of Voltron and He-Man and The Master of the Universe, screenwriter Justin Marks.

Here’s the thing that’s going to disappoint some of us, according to Latinoreview who has reviewed the script, the story only centers around the character Chun Li. There won’t be Ken, Ryu, Guile but there will be a bunch of bad guys.
How they can make a Street Fighter movie without their main characters just baffles me. This info alone will make it sound like it’s going to be just as crappy as Jean Claude’s version.

The story’s supposed to be about Chun Li’s quest to rescue her father who was captured by Bison.
I just hope there’ll be enough visual effects and action sequences to compensate for the lame storyline.

On another note, director Jon Favreau promised to release IRON MAN Teaser Trailer on September 10th.
As soon as it’s out, Rama’s SCREEN will have it shown here at your most reliable movie buff.

Eh… most video game to movie adaptations usually suck. The only adaptation that was pretty good in my opinion is Resident Evil, but that was because I like zombie movies… I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see.

For the most part, it’s probably going to be another stereotypical movie like the ones Uwe Bowel or whatever his name is makes…

There has to be a diffenate yet decent cast. Especially picking Ryu and Ken…drug dealers! What the hell! Yet you got to remember Zangifi’s catch phrase, “Quick change the channel!” Classic crap-age of a so called Street Fight movie…It’s going to be interesting, the turn of video game stories into something that can make sense where there is a plot. The comics were good along with the art and it would be interest enough to go to a Final fantesy phase, that’s if they are going for the Chun-Li approch…Infact, I would watch an SF:movie as a computer genarated feature. Damn…there should be another Street Fighter game!

    Another street fighter game eh..
    there might just be one.
because come to think about it.
don’t movies like this are usually followed by the release of the video game version?!

So once this new Street fighter movie gets on the big screen. I’m sure they’ll try to make some more money by releasing the new street fighter video game, at least one that is based on the movie itself.
