William Shatner’s too good for STAR TREK Prequel

At Movieweb, you can find that William Shatner a.k.a. Captain Kirk recently shared his opinion on what he thought about the eleventh Star Trek film which will be a prequel. We know now that director J.J. Abrams (MI:3) have chosen most of the cast to play the young version of the enterprise crew plus Leonard Nimoy playing the present time Mr. Spock. but here’s what Bill “Priceline man” Shatner’s got to say about this project…
“I’ve heard the thing about this cameo. I don’t know what that’s in reference to. I would be reluctant to do something that had so little value as to be a cameo. I’m disappointed that the story that they chose to do does not include the character I play, having been in on the birth of Star Trek, I would love to have been in on the rebirth or the resuscitation of it. The fact that I’m not is a disappointing and I think a foolish business decision on their part.”
Take it easy there, Captain. This is a whole new project under a whole new leadership using a storyline that he himself has never gone before. But having William Shatner as a cameo, even just for two seconds, would bring a certain honor to this project. The young Captain Kirk, by the way, will be played by actor Chris Pine.
Now here’s the surprise, Slashfilm has a source that said that it would be Captain Pike instead of Captain Kirk and that storyline will revolve around Mr. Spoke and it’s got nothing to do with when those young future heroes were in starfleet academy.
“The new Star Trek film will focus much more on Spock than on the crew of the Enterprise. Also, the adventure takes place on a USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike(!), with Pike and crew being helped out by Kirk but not until much later in the film. It’s unknown what ship Kirk would be serving on, but he is not yet a captain at that time. Finally, none of the film takes place at all at Starfleet Academy.”
Captain Pike, played by Jeffrey Hunter, is the first leader of the enterprise in the original pilot. He was severely injured while trying to save some cadets, so he basically spent his lifetime tied to an electronic wheelchair that’s operated by brainwaves.
That original pilot was rejected and so another pilot was made by Captain James Tiberius Kirk.
Some thought that Tom Cruise would show up in the movie as the young Captain Pike, though there was never any confirmation.
Maybe in this Star Trek Prequel movie, they’ll show how Pike got injured.

Captain Christopher Pike
Maybe Bill Shatner’s got a point, to have a Star Trek movie without him being a part of it will practically be as boring as to have a Star Trek movie without Captain Kirk at all, the young version or the present time version.
Recently, IESB said that the pre-injury Captain Pike might be played by Josh Lucas (A Beautiful Mind, Sweet Home Alabama, Glory Road, Stealth). Nobody knows for sure whether this is all true or not but Josh Lucas looks like an alright choice to play any Captain, he looks a lot like the young Paul Newman if Hollywood ever made a movie about Paul Newman.
