THE WATER HORSE: LEGEND OF THE DEEP Review

Water Horse
Not since the original Free Willy where the whale jumped over a kid has there been a family film with similar feel or excitement. THE WATER HORSE rekindles that moment in its own way. Ever since I was a kid I’ve always wondered about folklore creatures told by… old generations including the story about the Loch Ness Monster, I always thought it’d be pretty awesome if that thing actually existed, because then we would have something from the past that we can appreciate, that’s not a fossil or a mummy.

Water Horse

The CGI factor of this film will definitely fascinate younger audiences and keep them in awe. The visuals are not bad at all. The guys at Walden Media who are behind this project really know what they’re doing.

It’s a clean, good, family film with no potty humor.
In the story, there’s a group of soldiers that want to create their own war just so they can have an excuse to become heroes instead of actually going in to the real battlefields.
Now that part might be a bit confusing for kids to understand.
This movie does have explosions, shooting, and attempts on the creature’s life by the soldiers, it’s not really violent, bu just a heads up there so that your little cousin and nephews you take with you to see this movie wouldn’t get too upset or traumatized.

I do really enjoy the underwater sequences when Angus rode the Loch Ness monster, it looks fun!
I bet it feels like riding a horse but ten times more death-defying. As a fan of Roller-coasters, I find that to be the best part of the movie.
Maybe Six Flags should create a roller coaster based on this movie.

THE WATER HORSE, like any other fantasy film also deals with how we adults, because of life’s problems and experiences, often close ourselves from ever using our imagination again.
When someone tells us of wondrous things, we tell them foolish and stop dreaming, but when we do witness something extraordinary, as adults, the first thing that pops into our heads is how we can use it for our own benefit.
Typical adults we are. How sad!
This movie is not about directing or the acting, although.. I think Alex Etel (Millions) who plays the kid Angus McMorrow, might have what it takes to be the next child star, more than he already is.
If you’re not into fantasy movies like this one, that you might call this a dumb movie.
But if you’re family person who won’t mind watching this sort of thing once in a while for your kids’ sake, then this is the movie for you.
