MAD MONEY Review

mm
I like heist movies, I like the idea that a group of people can break into a bank or a casino and steal bigload of money and get away with it. I think that’s why heist movies are so popular because common, not rich people like you and me find it very cool to fantasize about getting filthy rich very quickly and being bad at the same time. MAD MONEY is… also heist movie, one that is intended to be a comedy starring three actresses: one is an old Oscar winner, the second one is an Oscar nominee, and the third one is married to a three time Oscar nominee who loves jumping on Oprah’s couch.

Bridget (Keaton) is having money problem and her husband (Danson) isn’t helping either. She never knows how to do anything and she gets herself a job at a Federal Reserve Bank. There she invites Nina, a single mother, and Jackie (Holmes) to join her in a plan that would get them out of financial problem for good.

MAD MONEY is pure fun! The jokes aren’t always funny but most of the time they manage to make you giggle and chuckle here and there. I think it’s because of the characters are just likable. You know what they’re doing is wrong but you don’t wanna see them pay for the consequences. You get annoyed by what they say and do but you don’t get mad at them either.

Diane Keaton is an American jewel, still shining no matter what. Queen Latifah is an attractive big lady with an attitude that would get you captivated even more. Katie Holmes in this movie plays an immature airhead girl but she has a heart of gold. The three musketeers… clumsy and unpredictable.

Katie Holmes decided to do this movie instead of reprising his role from Batman Begins for Christopher Nolan’s sequel The Dark Knight. She said to MTV that she had no regret and she had fun making film with Diane and Latifah. At first I thought she was stupid for turning down big budget project but now after having seen Mad Money, who can blame a girl for wanting to have fun with her girlfriends.

Here’s the thing… there’s always a downside to everything, right? I thin the way the story concludes is too abrupt and hasty. Heist movies usually has a smart twist ending or they would show how clever the masterminds are in executing their game plan. There’s nothing extraordinary about this one. That said, for a movie that comes out in a month where most movies tend to be really really bad. This one is all right in my book.
