RAMBO Review

Rambo
Wow! I can’t even begin to describe how horrible this movie is and I mean that in a sense that it lives up to everything that it’s promised. For those of us who love action movies with gore and blood, RAMBO doesn’t just push the envelope, it rips it apart and tears it into pieces. Strong Violence is not enough to… explain the rated R for this one. I grew up watching all three previous Rambo films, even my old man who’s conservative was into it too. But I’m sure he might get a heart attack if he sees this new installment. I even lost count on how many times I said ‘Damn!’ during the movie because I was just shocked by how brutal the killings were. Wow!

A bunch of missionaries arrive in Thailand seeking for help to get to Burma to bring medicine and Christianity in the war zone country. After being persuaded by an attractive woman, John Rambo agrees to take him up the river but when things go wrong and they get captured and tortured by rebels, Rambo is forced to show them his actual self.

Rambo

Take a good look at the image above, if you think that he’s going to pull that guy’s larynx out, then you have managed to think the way Rambo thinks. The movie’s runtime is surprisingly fast. Sly doesn’t waste any second on developing any character and most audiences who go to see this movie don’t mind either.
This movie brings back everything you know about John Rambo… and more.

Now here’s the kicker, to me RAMBO in a way is also a comedy film. You just can’t help but laugh when you see Sly’s old face looking so serious staring into nothing at all.
You’d laugh even harder when you’re reminded of the fact that most of the time, you can’t understand a single word that comes out of Stallone’s mouth. It’s like he’s eating and talking at the same time.
I won’t forget the flashbacks, the way he catches fish, the way he holds a cobra.
Everything is hilarious.

O and the best part… the lines, the dialogue, or the writing is super duper cheesy.
There’s a part where he points the tip of his arrow right in front of the eye of his target and he delivers his long speech that ends with “Live for nothing or die for something!”
I’m still laughing just remembering it. :)

The direction was done by Sly, so was production, so was the script, this movie’s another one of his ego trip. But hey, if you want something done right, do it yourself, right? :)

There’s a woman, played by actress Julie Benz, who catches the attention of our hero with a headband. I think she symbolizes everything that he misses about home.
I gotta hand it to the old man though.. at 60, he still has the appearance of a man who can stomp you like you’re some kind of cockroach.
I don’t know if you’ve been noticing but old men are coming back, Bruce Willis with Live Free or Die Hard, Sly with Rambo and Harrison Ford with Indiana Jones 4 and none of them are showing signs of needing a walker.

Bottomline, if you somehow have a sick fetish for watching people’s heads get blown up and chopped off everywhere, then RAMBO to you would be like Christmas in January.
This movie is made only for Rambo fans but I think even some of the fans know that this is by far the crappiest one in the franchise.

I agree with Rama that Rambo is sorta of a Comedy film in the way that the killing, dialogue, and overall movies is just so unrealistic you just can’t help but watch it and enjoy it. But this movie is unlike all the other Rambo’s to me.

For one thing, they took out a lot of the classic trademark Rambo scenes, for one, he NEVER uses the explosive arrow rounds. Another would be he doesn’t really use the jungle to his advantage to take out his enemy, and another would be he actually needs help from others… Something I did not expect when I was watching this movie. Those complaints take out the whole Rambo feel, and makes it “realistic” in a sense, and makes it a more modern action film, showing the age of how old the Rambo films really are and how different this film is to the others.

What I did like about this film is, that it is a PURE action film and does not waste much time in proving that. It is also one of the goriest movies I have seen in awhile and in a way, it is refreshing, as I haven’t seen a movie so based on violence and action since the late 90’s.

Overall, I don’t think it’s the worst in the series rather… it seems like Sly was trying to take it in a different direction and it was a good way of ending the series and putting it to rest as I don’t think I would really like to watch another Rambo. If you are looking for a pure action film that is all violence, this is the movie to watch, but if you are looking for a complete action/adventure film with character development… this is not the film.
