WITCHBLADE The Movie

Witchblade

I grew up reading superhero comic series, I rarely played video game as a kid, but I’ve always loved watching movies and TV series but WITCHBLADE was never my favorite even though it had Heavy Metal look to it. Sure the main character looks hot, but at the time, I could care less about it. Maybe because I was into X-Files and some other emo stuff.

According to Variety, Top Cow Productions and Arclight Films will team on a live-action feature adaptation of WITCHBLADE based on the comic book series created by Top Cow editors Marc Silvestri and David Wohl, writers Brian Haberlin and Christina Z, and artist Michael Turner

Witchblade

If I got the facts correct, the whole thing’s about a female detective named Sara Pezzini who comes into possession of the Witchblade, a supernatural, sentient artifact with immense destructive and protective powers. The weapon has bonded with various women throughout history, the most recent being Danielle Baptiste. Others who have come into contact with the Witchblade include Cleopatra and Joan of Arc. Sadly, Oprah never got the chance to encounter it, but it didn’t stop her from becoming the most powerful woman today :)
Where was I.. ah, yes…Sara struggles to hone the awesome powers of the Witchblade and fend off those with a nefarious interest in it, especially entrepreneur Kenneth Irons. She also struggles to maintain a personal life.

WITCHBLADE was adapted into a moderately successful television series in 2001-2002, starring Yancy Butler as Sara Pezzini.
It lasted only two seasons, huh.. that should tell you something about the quality of the show.
Yancy Butler, BTW, doesn’t look even nearly as hot as the the character in the comic books.
The title was also adapted into an anime and manga series in 2004.

* In celebration of this info, here’s the intro to the short-lived WITCHBLADE TV series
