MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS Now on DVD

My Blueberry Nights

One of the most soothing, sultry romantic dramas I’ve ever seen has hit DVD. The thing that makes this movie feel so heartfelt is the comforting music, the soundtrack that just flows in harmony with the storyline that would rekindle your hope in the power of love even when things turn to trouble and nothing else makes sense anymore.
Genius Products and The Weinstein Company proudly presents a magical story about self-discovery and love that will win you over, MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS (Please read my Review on the movie)

My Blueberry Nights

MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS stars Jude Law (Cold Mountain), Natalie Portman (Closer), David Strathairn (Good Night, And Good Luck), Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, and, in her debut performance, Grammy award-winning artist, Norah Jones.

CHAINSAW MAID! Bloody Claymation

Celebrity Deathmatch got nothing on this one. This short clip titled CHAINSAW MAID about zombies attacking a family and the maid with a chainsaw who becomes the hero is probably the bloodiest clay-animation I’ve ever seen.
As a zombie movie fan, I gotta say,.. not bad at all.
Bravo to the Japanese amateur animator who goes by the name Takena… Hiya!
A little heads up… watch it with caution.. the images may be considered very graphic and disturbing to some.

Jonathan Levine is POSITIVE about his VENDETTA

Jonathan LevineOne of my favorite movies of the year is THE WACKNESS (By all means, please read my review on the movie)
Writer/director Jonathan Levine crafted what could possibly an Oscar contender for Best Picture.
I’m also vouching for him for the Best Original Screenplay category.. he’s got my vote.

So I like seeing cool things happen to cool people.
And it seems like Jonathan Levine can see clearly now the rain is gone and his future is going to be a bright, bright sun shiny day.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Levine will write and direct two new projects.
The first one is a romantic thriller titled POSITIVE which centers on a twenty-something who visits his fiancee’s family only to be seduced by her sister… Nice! ehm.. I mean.. that’s cool

The second one is an espionage thriller based on David Stone’s novel titled ECHELON VENDETTA which centers on CIA operative in charge of keeping dirty laundry from being aired in public, who after the death of a friend begins to investigate the deaths of several agents.

I like Jonathan Levine’s blunt answer when asked about why he went from directing Indie films to Studio films. He said..
“I want to have a lot of the creative freedom that comes from (indie films), but I also don’t want to be broke,”

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 got a Special GUEST who’ll take it up a notch to 11

Christopher Guest

Most casting info are boring.. if you have trouble sleeping, instead of taking all kinds of crappy pills, just read some of the boring casting info out there and you’ll sleep like a baby in no time, guaranteed.

But this one, however, hits home because as a kid, I was a big fan of the movie THIS IS SPINAL TAP
And all these years I’ve been following the career of the man behind the genius idea and all his mockumentary movies (Best in Show, Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman), none other than the talented Christopher Guest.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Ben Stiller’s upcoming Sequel movie NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN has been honored with a special GUEST, literally, director/actor Christopher Guest will star in the movie as IVAN THE TERRIBLE
How cool is that!

He’s not the only recently got hired for the gig, Jon Bernthal will play AL CAPONE, SNL’s Bill Hader will play GEN. GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER and French actor Alain Chabat will play the famous shorty who had small people complex and then conquered many countries in the 18th century, NAPOLEON BONAPARTE

The screenwriters who penned the first movie return to do this one as well and they’re going to star in the movie!
Reno 911’s Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant will play THE WRIGHT BROS.
Maybe their character will be competitive and arguing with each other in the most comical way.

Directed by Shawn Levy starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and Owen Wilson. The production is going on in Vancouver but they did film portions of the movie in the actual Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
NIGHT OF THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN opens May 22nd, 2009…it’s going to go up against Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins

* In celebration of this info, this is the hilarious scene featuring young Christopher Guest as Nigel the Rock Star in the movie THIS IS SPINAL TAP

Will PHILIP NOYCE be the Director of Tom Cruise’s SALT?

Tom Cruise

I remember the olden days when it was so easy for Tom Cruise to find work with some of the top notch directors of our time.
Minority Report with Steven Spielberg, Jerry McGuire with Cameron Crowe, The Firm with Sydney Pollack, Far and Away with Ron Howard, Born on the 4th of July with Oliver Stone, Rain Man with Barry Levinson, The Color of Money with Martin Scorsese and Top Gun with Tony Scott.

I mean.. back then it’s as if every A-list director wanted to work with Tom Cruise..
Now.. not so much.

One of Tom Cruise’s new projects is EDWIN A. SALT, about a CIA officer who’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy. He must elude capture long enough to clear his name.
The thing is… there have been a few directors considered to helm the project… names like Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) and Peter Berg (The Kingdom) but they all balked.

And so, according to Variety, Australian Philip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games) is next in line, or final negotiations I should say to take on the responsibility. Everybody at Columbia pictures is crossing their fingers, hoping he wouldn’t have second thoughts.

I have to admit, Tom Cruise is still a talented actor.
Yes, he’s a Scientology cuckoo but damn it, if you’ve seen his work in the past, then you’d know that he’s more than just a poster boy.
The problem now is.. Just like when Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was distancing himself from Pres. Bush in order to get re-elected.. I got a feeling many filmmakers are beginning to feel like they’d rather work with someone else rather than to have their names attached to Tom freakin’ Cruise.

* In celebration of this info, let’s take a look again at this clip..the best, funniest impersonation of Tom Cruise ever

BLINDNESS New Poster

Thanks to Cinematical, here is the New Poster for BLINDNESS starring redhead Julianne Moore who obviously turned blond for this role. I don’t know if that makes her look any better. Her acting is fantastic though. I think the image seen here kinda goes with the story. She’s the only who can see and the characters behind her are fading more and more toward the end of the line.

Based on Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago’s novel, and directed by Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardener, City of God) The story tells of a city overcome by a strange blindness epidemic where its citizens are stricken with instant “white blindness.” One woman who remains unaffected pretends to be sick in order to take care of her husband, a doctor, who’s now blind

More Spy Photos: SHUTTER ISLAND

Shutter Island

I’m still confused as to which exact title they’re going to go with regarding this movie, Ashecliffe or Shutter Island? I personally like the latter. If you’re a big fan of thriller novel and if you haven’t read author Denis Lehane’s awesome book Shutter Island, then you’re missing out. Better hurry up to the nearest book store and read it before the movie version comes out in theaters next year.

Speaking of which, Just Jared got some more spy photos from the set of SHUTTER ISLAND, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, and Michelle Williams, also starring Ben Kingsley and Patricia Clarkson,… wait, and it’s directed by the great Martin Scorsese, the man with thick eyebrows who loves casting Leo DiCaprio in his movies.

The story takes place in an a prison for the criminally insane located in a remote island. US Marshall Ted Daniels goes there with his partner in order to investigate the mysterious disappearance of one of the inmates.
It’s got twists and turns that will make your head spin.
SHUTTER ISLAND or ASHECLIFFE hits theaters October 2nd, 2009

We’ll see when the two characters collide starting July 18th, 2008.
The world of comic superhero movie will never be the same again..
And here we go!

Gary Oldman is Versatile Actor in CHRISTMAS CAROL

A Christmas Carol

Gary Oldman is one of my favorite under-appreciated actors. Just check out his awesome villainous performances in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Leon The Professional. Hands down, the British dude is mad talented and he’s going to be seen next in the movie THE DARK KNIGHT as Lt. Jim Gordon.

Via Sci-Fi Wire, Gary Oldman revealed what his next role is in Robert Zemeckis‘ motion capture animated 3-D movie A CHRISTMAS CAROL.

“I play Marley,”
“I play Tiny Tim, and I play Bob Cratchit, so I play three [characters].

Director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) has been addicted to making motion capture 3-D spectacles (The Polar Express, Beowulf). The fascination is borderline obsessive.
Gary Oldman said that making the movie is nothing like what doing theater gigs.

“It’s nothing like theater.” Rather, he said, he performs his part in an empty room surrounded by “200 cameras, … and you don’t wear a costume, and you have dots on your face, and Zemeckis will make the movie in the computer later.”

Well, There’s a first time for everything…
A CHRISTMAS CAROL is a new take on Charles Dickens‘ Classic novel.
The movie opens November 6th, 2008 and it stars Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins.

Poster: THE FAMILY THAT PREYS

Via Cinematical, this is a cool poster for director Tyler Perry’s new movie THE FAMILY THAT PREYS. You see..it’s like one of those images that could have dual pictures in it and it goes with the underlining theme of the story, I bet. I’ve been trying to get Tyler Perry to come to my school and talk with the students in the campus. No luck yet.

Click on the image to enlarge

Tyler Perry

THE FAMILY THAT PREYS opens September 12th, 2008
It’s about the matriarchs of two very different families being torn apart by greed and scandal. I’m sure it’ll have some Christian values or lessons to learn somewhere in the story.
Starring Alfre Woodard, Kathy Bates, Tyler Perry, Rockmond Dunbar, Sanaa Lathan, KaDee Strickland, Cole Hauser and Taraji P. Henson

Possible Poster for TRANSFORMERS 2?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Seibertron got its hands what could be the possible poster for TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN.
It looks crap, I have a feeling it might be even fake. Maybe a better, actual version would soon come along and kick the small poster’s ass.
What do you think?

Mark Wahlberg wants THE DEPARTED 2?

Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg talked to MTV recently about the possibility of making THE DEPARTED Sequel/Prequel..
That’s cool. I liked the first movie, The Departed is definitely one of legendary director Martin Scorsese’s best achievements..

Now if Mark Wahlberg starts talking about THE HAPPENING 2… then I’d shoot myself, and I won’t even need some plants to give the order (Read my Review on one of the most disappointing movies of the year)

Here’s what Marky Mark said about THE DEPARTED 2

“We may do another one, because it’s based on a Hong Kong film [’Infernal Affairs’], and there is a trilogy. So we may do a sequel with a new cast, and a prequel and bring back the rest of the guys… They’re [still] developing it… If it can be better than the first, then great. I’ll be all for it. I’m not interested in going for the paycheck. I love ‘Godfather 2’ but, then again, I don’t like ‘Godfather 3.”

I saw the movie Infernal Affairs way before The Departed was released in theaters. Personally I thought the ending to the Hong Kong version somehow gave so much meaning as opposed to Martin Scorsese’s ending that just had Matt Damon’s character killed.
But hey, in my opinion, The Departed was all in all still a powerhouse gangsta movie, mainly because of screenwriter Monahan who adapted the story and added in some awesome memorable dialogue

Mark Wahlberg said some of the funniest lines in that movie..
So in celebration of this info, here’s Mark Wahlberg in THE DEPARTED…

Jon Favreau and Marvel will Work Things out Regarding IRON MAN 2

Jon FavreauWill the war in Iraq be over soon? Will we ever see gas prices back to the good way it used to be? Will Britney learn to behave?
There are some questions in life that will NEVER have answers.
At least one question is showing signs of answer.. Will Jon Favreau return to direct IRON MAN 2?

IESB recently interviewed Jon Favreau via a cool video clip. In a nutshell, this is what Favreau said regarding the sequel..

“It’s gonna work out, I have a feeling. It’s…we’re working it all out. They’ve actively engaged with us.”

Good, Marvel Studios has come to its senses.
But time flies, man!
If Marvel wants to release it by April 30th, 2010.. then Jon Favreau and the gang better start working pre-production stuff pronto!
Because it took 3 years at least for the people behind Batman Begins to plan, to write, to cast, to arrange everything and eventually to come up with a magnificent sequel known to mankind as The Dark Knight.

“It’s a lot of work to get it done in that amount of time…to get this thing done in two years it means we’ve got to dig in really fast and be relentless. It’s just a wind sprint all the way through. The good news is we’ve already designed the suit, of course, already have our cast, all the things that took so much time the first time around…everybody understands my vision for the film, based on the first one.”

What about THE AVENGERS movie? Will he direct that one too?

“It’s going to be really tough…I would be involved with the other properties in some capacity, but Iron Man 2 is the one that I think needs the day in and day out care and attention.”

He also went on to deny rumors that Thor might be introduced in IRON MAN 2 and then he spoke a bit about CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, saying that he’s seen the artwork and so far it’s pretty impressive.

Guillermo Del Toro’s wants Doug Jones to play The New Frankenstein’s Monster

Del Toro and Doug Jones

Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy II: The Golden Army) is an ambitious director who likes to take on many challenges. One of them is to bring back the classic tale of FRANKENSTEIN and of course the iconic monster which has been re-imagined by many different filmmakers.

Del Toro won’t reveal who he has in mind to play Dr. Frankenstein but he does have somebody in mind that he thinks would be perfect to play the monster

This is what he said to Shocktilyoudrop recently…

“For the monster I would love to have Doug Jones,” he revealed. Jones has worked for the director as a creature performance since Mimic and plays Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films. “I think he can do a fantastic job. Ron looks seven feet tall in Hellboy, but he’s not. I think we could do that with Doug, but I would love to do it with him. The only vision of the Frankenstein monster I’ve ever latched onto is Berni Wrightson’s. He’s lanky and long and it’s gorgeous in a tragic way. Doug has all of those qualities.”

“gorgeous” I never thought that word would be associated with Monster.
Afterwards, Doug Jones who is freakishly tall, was immediately informed about what Del Toro said and he was flattered about the idea, adding that he would feel honored to play the role the late great Boris Karloff once played.
I don’t know if I’d be that excited if I were Doug Jones,,… from playing a creature to playing another creature..Not much of a step up there if you ask me.

So what exactly that Guillermo Del Toro has in mind for this project?

“I think it’s going to have to be developed very carefully over the next four years,”
Commenting on the fact that he’ll be pretty busy for the next few years with fellow director Peter Jackson, working on the movie adaptation THE HOBBIT, which means the FRANKENSTEIN Project would have to wait a while.

“Look, I would never attempt to recreate the Whale Frankenstein, but I do think there is an alternate story that could be told about the Frankenstein mythos.”
“It’s more like a fairy tale, a strange, weird fairy tale.”
