SAVAGE GRACE Review

There are many dysfunctional families out there but this is just F*d up. SAVAGE GRACE does however give out a sense of sexuality and aesthetism that tackles social themes and the misguided perception of what makes one happy. Based on a true story of one of the most chilling murders ever. The moments leading up to that horrible day… would upset you. This is definitely one of the most hard-to-watch, depressing movies I’ve ever seen.
The true story told in a poetic manner about the beautiful and charismatic Barbara Dalyabove who married above her class to Brooks Baekeland, heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune. Their only child is a failure in his father’s eyes, and as he matures and becomes increasingly close to his lonely mother, the seeds for tragedy are sown

I have no doubt in Julianne Moore’s acting skills. She could play anything this world throws at her. But it seems like she always comes back to this dark, gritty, suicidal motherly roles (The Hours, Freedomland)
I think Julianne just has that perfect pale face to play a character whose happiness is empty and fake, like everything she’s worked on all her life has turned to crap daily.
I have to give you a heads up, like I said, this movie can get really difficult to watch… not just the homosexuality scenes but most of all the act of incest.
The son is considered a failure by the father so he grows closer and closer to his mother, too close, if I might add.
Nobody knows exactly what snapped in his mind, what triggered him to commit something heartless as a murder but your mind would get insane too if you lived in their idea of family.
Every member feels like they’re never gonna be good enough for the other person
I think SAVAGE GRACE is a decent art film. It might not find a wide audience, but those of us who can take chances to analyze this would probably categorize it in almost the same level as the movie Requiem for a Dream.
I’m still not sure if Julianne Moore’s character is the only one to blame for the family’s demise. I think every body plays a part in making the their relationship ruined since the get-go.
