HARRY POTTER Vs. HARI PUTTAR

Harry Vs. Hari

This info was a few days old but it’s just way too funny to pass up. Just when you thought that WB would only have to fight Fox over WATCHMEN movie, WB which also has brought us the Harry Potter franchise since the beginning of the new millennium, now has another fight to battle.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has filed a lawsuit against Mumbai-based producer/distributor Mirchi Movies related to the upcoming Indian movie titled HARI PUTTAR: A COMEDY OF TERRORS, which will be released in Indian theaters September 12th, 2008

WB folks think the name sounds too similar with Harry Potter and they don’t care if in fact HARI is actually a very popular Indian name, while PUTTAR means ’son’ in Punjabi

Warners spokeswoman Deborah Lincoln explained..
“We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled Hari Puttar,”
“Warner Bros. values and protects intellectual property rights. However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation.”

Mirchi CEO Munish Purii responded by saying…
“Since the case is sub-judice we can’t comment as of now. However, we registered the Hari Puttar title in 2005 and it’s unfortunate that Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film’s release. In my opinion, I don’t think our title has any similarity or links with Harry Potter.”

Which side are you on?

The WB is wrong and should lose the case. I’m tired of all this corporate BS. Trying to make even a “name” unable to be processed just because it SOUNDS SIMILAR?
