Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, as Tonto in The Lone Ranger, and Jack Sparrow again in PIRATES 4
This Disney event today must’ve been big because it showcased all its future plans and some of them involving one of the biggest names in Hollywood, Girls’ heartthrob, the one and only… Johnny Depp.
Via comingsoon.net, it is official! Johnny Depp will star as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND which will be shot in 3-D
Burton and Depp are inseparable. The level of loyalty is impressive.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND opens March 5th, 2010, will combine performance-capture imagery with live-action footage.
Burton is pushing the envelope, trying to come up with the newest formula combining other previous methods.
Depp joins the cast that so far only has actress Mia Wasikowska as Alice and actor Matt Lucas who-knows.
One down, two more to go.
Last year, the writers of Pirates of the Caribbean and Super Producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed their interest in making the movie version of the old classic popular TV series The Lone Ranger.
Today, Johnny Depp announced that he will also star IN the western Masked man hero, THE LONE RANGER for Disney, the story is said to be an Origin story, written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio
Jerry Bruckheimer is currently producing PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME starring Jake Gyllenhaal
And wait!… last but not least.
Depp also confirmed that he has signed on for the Fourth Installment of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Holy Crap! The guy is either multitasking or he’s about to do back-to-back projects like crazy! Where does he get all that energy? And why would he wanna put himself in such busy stuff? Is money the motivation? I thought he already has enough to buy an island. And why on earth is he doing all of this for Disney? He’s bound to get another Oscar nomination for any of those roles, right? I guess he won’t be playing The Riddler for WB even he’s offered the part.
But I’m sure Johnny Depp fans can feel excited about this amazing info, knowing that their favorite star will always be on the big screen for them at least for the next few years to come.
UPDATE: According to comingsoon.net, Johnny Depp is officially signed to play Tonto and NOT the Lone Ranger as we all thought at first. Tonto is The Lone Ranger’s native American assistant. I hope Depp playing an Indian doesn’t piss off native Americans like they’re pissed off about The Washington Redskins

According to Wikipedia, one of Depp’s categories is “Americans of Cherokee descent,” then again, lots and lots of Americans can claim that ancestry. So the debate rages on. In any case, the character Tonto is apparently Potawatomi.
Depp would make a great Mad Hatter - the Alice character AND the Batman villain (inspired by the former). Anyway, Joker > Riddler > Mad Hatter.
