Don Cheadle Replaces Terrence Howard in IRON MAN 2
Wow! I didn’t see this coming at all. We all knew Marvel had problems this past summer trying to get director Jon Favreau locked in for the sequel, there were financial bickering over salary but that of course had been settled…. but I didn’t know the same may have happened also on Terrence Howard, who plays Col. Jim Rhodes, who is set to be War Machine.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Don Cheadle has replaced Terrence Howard in the sequel, IRON MAN 2 sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons.
Director Jon Favreau at one point has promised that War Machine would have more to do in the sequel but I’m not sure about this recast.
Howard and Downey Jr. got along just fine in the first movie, I know Don Cheadle is a very talented actor but I don’t know if a combo of Cheadle and Downey Jr. could create the same impression.
This info has been an addition to my other reason that makes me concerned about IRON MAN 2, which will open on May 7th, 2010, the writer hired for the job is one of the guys who made Tropic Thunder, Justin Theroux.
I say that because a recast wouldn’t be such a bad thing if the story was great to begin with (Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes in The Dark Knight) because the story would stand out and save whatever bad effect the recast might have on the audiences/fans.

Salary issues? Dude, you get to be on a frickin’ movie! Hell, it always amazes me how Actors, Athletes, and Agents these days think they are triple A members of society who deserve more for what they do.
They have the most useless jobs on earth, if they all died, we could still live and survive.

I don’t really like sequels to start with. This movie was good enough that I would have seen Iron Man 2. I won’t see it without Howard. This is total disregard for the fans by the studios. They make over a half billion dollars worldwide on this movie. Pay the actor! I am boycotting and encouraging everyone to sign the petition at http://www.ironman2movieboycott.com.
